I woke up on Saturday morning, that fateful day after Christmas in 2003. I picked up the papers and almost cried when I read the headlines -
5000 people Dead in Bam. 20,000 injured
On that Friday morning after Christmas, a massive earthquake, measuring 6.7 on the Richter scale, destroyed both the 2000 year old ancient abandoned City of Bam in S.E. Iran, as well as its 150 year old replacement city. When I first wrote this two days after the earthquake, the death toll had risen to more than 20,000, and the injured and the maimed exceeded 40,000. It was a tragic day for the people of Bam, and I grieved deeply for them, and I still do. Although I knew Bam only briefly, I have several images of Bam that I want to share with you, to show you what this calamity had destroyed, besides the human suffering, and to show you some recent photos I shot when I drove through Bam again in 2007, on my way from London to Malaysia. My original pictures were shot in... [Read More]

Canon has announced the EF8-15mm f/4L Fisheye USM L-series lens – the world’s first fisheye zoom lens to offer both circular and full frame images – that provides outstanding image quality, a constant f/4 aperture throughout the zoom range and a robust design.
The zoom lens will replace the EF15mm f/2.8 Fisheye in the Canon lens range and when paired with Canon full frame DSLR bodies, such as the EOS 5D Mark II or the EOS-1Ds Mark III, professional photographers can choose to capture circular or full-frame fisheye images, allowing them to view a scene in a completely new and unique way. This image choice provides enhanced creative flexibility when shooting scenes such as the night sky, where the full 180º horizontal and vertical fields of view (FOV) allow... [Read More]

Hello guys, i have always been frustrated by the OEM film adapter. It doesnt keep the film flat and it is very hard to put in the negatives in case they are curly.
So what i did was, i got myself a big piece of glass and sandwich the film with it. Now my films are flat, but they are not straight.
Somehow i need to place the negatives exactly how the OEM adapter would so that the software can detect the frames automatically.
For that to work, i took out the (lock, lid, the thing that open and close to hold the negs, whatever) from the adapter and place a glass in the middle. This is how it looks.

Leica M9 on a PMPE 5, to Bangladesh,
A User’s Review
1. Ladies in the Jute Field by Linda Danker
This picture was taken one hour after holding the camera for the first time
It all started the year after Malaya’s Independence when a small boy followed his father to send off his colonial CEO. Pictures were taken in the usual “bon voyage” style. A few months later a picture turned up and the boy was so impressed with the picture quality and he enquired about what camera was used to take this picture…it was a Leica M3.
That image left a lasting impression on the boy till today. So when the opportunity to own a set of M3 with 3 lenses came up, he took the plunge and has not regretted ever... [Read More]
