Over the years, we have developed many hobbies. Some last & some does not. Most, if not all of us that hang around this community, should have very strong bond to this hobby. We "invest" in expensive gears & stuff. And we are happy (no?). But have it comes to your mind that what if one day you tire with photography & want to move on to other hobby?
Do you think this will happen to you? :)

You have to chop off my cool fingers to remove my "L"
Photography is unique where even those not interested with photography also, still owned a camera to take pictures when they go for holiday...
Will you actually get to get rid of photography??? You will still need a camera... So, it will always come back to haunt you... It is in your blood already...

This might be slightly OT...
Is photography to you a means to an end or an end in itself?
For myself, it's a means to an end, an instrument/process to record moments, friends, places, events for posterity. Am not quite the artsy type so I don't really take pictures just for the sake of getting a nice image per se nor will I try to project my pictures as a form of self expression (as it is, I write too much already).
But yes, as a means to an end, I'll continue to take mediocre pictures for a long long time :)

Man, I've gone through a long list of hobbies in the short time that I've been on this earth. But photography has been the longest running one, and of course the most expensive one. I've cooled off several times in between the time I started and now, so even though I may have gotten lukewarm, I dont think I'll ever drop it for good. As eric mentioned earlier, taking photos is part of almost everyone's life now. So I dont think it's something you can totally drop.

Photography is like drug... you will get addicted to it without you knowing it...
You will spend lots of $$$ in it, and most of the time, other than the pleasure and satisfaction you get outta it, it does not justify the amount of $$$ you put in... but you will still keep doing it.
Your wife, GF, BF and husband will hate it coz you are into it so much and neglect them.
You will spend hours daydreaming bout your next shot and how to make it better to achieve that ultimate satisfaction you set for yourself.
When satisfaction not achieved, you will pull hair, bang head, cry... or even BEG your subject to re-create the shots...
So, after all the things that we all have been through, do you think we will DROP the hobby and pursue a new one?
Answer: NO WAY MAN!!!

I just told my wife today that I need a DSLR for my ShaShinKi.com business...need a DSLR to test the lenses for off focus...she said she sponsored half...
Should I pick up photography again? :evil5:

in terms of hobby, i have no any other... so photography is my only one hobby. i can live without doing it, but my life will so dull. to give up is a nonononono.
i personaly do not speak well or write well (in fact i do not know how to draw at all). photography just one of the way how i can express myself. Some one inside me (that i only understand for little) doing pictures of my life.
may be i just die after i posting this message (who know?). at least i left some marks, to let (who-ever-is) know what was from my mind and thought and of course how i see from the world.

I gave it up for quite a while. There were much more exciting things to do, mainly outdoor sports. But I found it again and I don't think I'll give it this time.

Actually I didnt realised just how much I had fallen in love with photography until sometimes ago when I got into horrible printing experience in which I got so disappointed and heart broken to the point that to continue in photog would bring no more meaning to me.. ..
For a moment I felt like lost in the middle of the sea..
Later on luckily I managed to find out those bad prints was not caused by my skill nor the camera... and after that incident I began to take care of my gears more and love them more..( b4 that i used to treat my cam gears like one of those hardware tools )
So to give up photography? definetely NO in the foreseable future..(unless really purk kai already laa..gee..choi ge tai kert lai shii!)

I gave up (photography) for several years in the late 1980's when my beloved Nikon FG was stolen. Funds were not readily available for a replacement, plus being distraught (cos i knew the perp), i just gave it all up.
The future? You'd never know. But i may be forced to give it up if i go blind.

it's so easy to pick it up again, so what's the fuss about giving it up now or not?
