View Full Version : How do you dress?
This question is targeted to part-time photog, full-time photog, starving artistes™ etc
How do you dress for a wedding dinner/reception, vvip event/dinner assigment?
for me when i started many donkey years ago i use to wear jean and polo-shirt (shirt with collar) and a camera type vest for almost any kind of function. about 5 years ago i drop the vest and started to dress according to function. Jean and polo-shirt for any informal event, slacks and short sleeve shirt for formal events/dinner/wedding dinner/reception.
Lately i have been shooting alot of dinners involving VVIP i hv started to wear black leather shoes, black slacks, black long sleeve shirt with light shade tie and if its in hotel or cooler place i would also wear a coat over it.
but honestly i don't feel comfortable at all with the coat.
so pls share your own pengalaman and also do you think a photographer should respect to event by following the dress code or don't bother its just the photos that they (clients) wants, not the way you dress up.

I think it is better to dress according to function, as a respect to your client and others in the function.
Though i'm not part time/full time photog la.. :)

I dress either in a batik shirt or a custom made baju melayu. Instead of using the ordinary baju melayu material i use the material they use for slacks. I just ask them to basically make slacks with a matching baju melayu top. The advantage of this is at least I can use the pockets for storing lenses. The pocket will hold a 24-70L quite easily. Something which normal baju melayu material cannot handle.
I can never ever wear a tie to a photo event. It just gets in the way.

"Horses for courses" meaning prepare yourself for your role/assignment. Wear the appropriate dressing, you may not be aware of this but hosts and organisers want photogs to fit in their function and not someone that sticks out like a sore thumb because of his/her dressing.

I'm shooting a wedding ON MY F*&^@#ING BIRTHDAY. This will be my 3rd in 2 years...so don't like it, but as a favor to a family friend...guanxi and all, y'know...tho the guanxi return'll go to my mom-in-law :glare:
Anyway, I'm wearing a polo and khakis + black photo vest.
Do I sound pissed about this? Am I that transparent? Wait...what was the thread topic again? :p
