Brand new or used? 486RC is the smallest ball head right?
Remember I'm selling my set recently? Mine was bought RM540 (with the head). Kena conned liao... Later found out brand new 190DB can get RM285 and the head RM145... Since mine was open box condition, finally sold to a fren for RM400... interest free easy pymt scheme... :P
If you got that set brand new RM400, that's a good deal lar... :)

Bought it brand new. RM250 for 190DB and RM160 for 486RC. I know altogether should be RM410 but the fella gave RM10 discount. Actually wanted 141RC (RM120) but fell for a ball head at the last minute. (141RC also a bit bulky imho) :)

Here are some pics
1. No camera mounted

2. My nearly dead F801 :( mounted.

Dunno about the 486RC being the smallest (not very knowledgeble about tripods...yet) but I like the size, which was why I chose it over the 141RC.

486RC will not be stable enough when you get the 70-200 VR

IF I get the 70-200VR...and that has to be like, the biggest IF ever. :) And IF I could ever buy a 70-200VR, a few hundred for a new head shouldn't bother me eh? :)

I've got the Manfrotto 055 and a few giant heads - the 488 RC4, the 322 R2 Pistol Grip Ball Bead and the 141 RC. I've gone thru a few flimsy tripods in the past and the lesson learnt is that - Tripods are forever - buy the sturdiest that you can afford because eventually, when you get on to the big lenses, those flimsy ones wont be suitable.

I got the 190B. The 190DB looks different. Anyone knows what is different?

OT questions :D
1) what if the tripod spec says max load is 6kg and the ballhead (weighing 500g) max load is also 6kg, does that mean the max load that the tripod and the ballhead attached together would be : 6kg - 500g = 5.5kg?
2) what if the tripod max load is 6kg and the ballhead (weighing 500g) max load is 4 kg. then what would be total max load for both of them attaching together?

Your 190DB does not have the horizontal spirit level? i think the current version 190DB has this feature.
Yours have screw wing-knobs? the 190PRO has the lever-type lock compared to the screw one (190D)

i'm also eyeing for the 190PRO...i think it is better value for money compared to 190DB for the ability to have double positioning vertical and horizontal center column...
I check the price is about RM250 during the Photo Fair at KL Plaza ! :nodyes:

I bought one ballhead in China, brand Tanner it same as Manfrotto 486RC, but last week purchase another Manfrotto 488rc2 with RM250, seem 488rc2 is better to use,
plan to sell the Tanner.

dont u think the 190 is heavy? + ball head ... about 3kg's...
lug around for a while ok lah... carry for longer periods... u can feel it...
actually liked the weight of SLIK sprint pro... anyone know if the included ballhead can be detached to put in your own quick release ballhead?

TT, I don't think it works like the way you mentioned.
If the ball head says 5kg, the tripod says 6kg, that means the max load you can use is 5kg only. The weight limit tells the user the limits of the equipment, in this case the ballhead or tripod. They have already taken into account the weight of the equipment itself, so you don't have to do complicated arithmetic (it is complicated to me!). Just take the figures as they are.
Ideally, you should match the weight of the tripod and ball head together, ie. 5kg and 5kg weight limit. In any case, conventional engineering dictates that the ACTUAL limit is more than claimed, purposely done so for contingencies. Hence your 5kg limit head may actually be able to hold up to 7kg or so...

thanks Matt!!
so, what i can conclude is that no point buying top of the range ballhead (e.g can support 10kgs of equipment) where the tripod can only support 5kgs of equipment, no?

the picture shows 190Pro leh...can see the model number there. R u sure you got the right tripod? Paid little and got the better? :D
The 468RC looks nice, very much like my previous 308RC head.
RM400 is good value for money. 190 model is better than 055 model if you are going travelling. 055 is just too heavy...and my Gitzo 1410 is crazy heavy...

Ooopsss!!! Sorry, my bad, I'm a total tripod newbie. Its a 190PROB...erm....I think I got confused with the online catalogue (they all look the same and are named so similiarly!). Anyway, so I guess that means I got:
1. 190PROB for RM250
2. 486RC for RM 160
altogether RM400 after RM10 discount.
PS: Whats the difference between the 190DB and 190PRO?

That's very cheap !! I don't mind to get a set too.
So, I called up King's Photo today to enquire if they could still sell at that price and the girl who answered my call said "No", as that price was only for the duration of the Photo Trade Fair. Anyone knows of any other shops that still can sell at that price?
Anyway, I guess I have just missed the boat.
Alternatively, if any of PM forumers who had bought the same set during the fair and want to let go of it (e.g. because tripod not tall enough or ball head too small, etc.,), I would be happy to take over. Please PM me.
