To all gurus in PM,

Im newbie in this forum n as well as in this 'photography industry'. But my interest started since a very long time ago probably because i like to see the beauty of this world (human, land, mountain etc) which signifies the greatest of the almighty.

Previously i only managed to have a film camera (non slr) but now alhamdulillah i can afford to get an average dslr which i believe it has a lot of things to offerred.

Looking at especially Tn Hj Yusof (DA)'s an above average photos like the one in Tibet, middle east etc has aspired me a lot to explore the great journey of a photographer.

===================

Now come to the silly question.

1. How to get a photoshop cs software which i believe can give an adequate support in photo processing. How much does it cost or can i download it from the web?.

2. I m just an average employee with an average income but trying to play with the expensive toy. Silly me.
But with $1000.00 in hand (probably 3-4 months saving) what is the great affordable lense can i get?

Thanks a in advance cikgus.

some questions:
1. what brand of DSLR r u using?

2. your $1000 budget is in RM?

3. what do you intended to do/use with photoshop? There are many other freeware/shareware available in the net (search http://www.download.com). Photoshop CS original version will cost you a lot. Most DSLR comes with photoshop element which is a simplied version of PS CS.

PS CS will cost u at least Rm2K. U can purchase it online from various local vendors, e.g.:

http://www.edushop.com.my/index.php?cPath=...=2a&filter_id=3 (http://www.edushop.com.my/index.php?cPath=4_18&sort=2a&filter_id=3)

As KK has said, there r many other image editors which r far cheaper or even free.

Thanks for the reply.

some questions:

1. Canon 350D

2. RM

3. Currently the softwares that i have in the package are Digital Photo Profesional, Arcsoft Photo Studio 5.5 and Zoom Browser ex. I want to change the background color to BW but the only way i can figure is it needs me to extract the subject carefully n paste in the layer before i can change the background color. It is a long process. (Probably there is an easiest way that i do not know)

I read a tips from DA about the easiest way to change color by using the PS CS and it really attractive. But since it cost me RM2k emm....... beyond the reach ......... is there any cheaper alternative software in the market out there?

Thanks

that is the same as 'pirate' version, even if copied from legitimate CD.

I prefer to call it "trial" version. But since i'm in the IT industry... i dun think we should use pirated version. Just imagine this lar.. .u take your photo so nicely.. then somebody take it for you and sell.... and make money out of it... geezeee...

I thought that Canon DSLRs came with PS Elements - basic but sufficient for most photo editing, I think.

You should get your Adobe PS element FREE when you bought your 350D

When I got my 300D, I got it and I am using it. Check your CDs again!

Have you looked at Hyperon's GIMP link?

GIMP is free. Has all the major functions of PS and you get free updates too since it's an open source software. Only thing is that if your are used to PS, it gets a bit getting used to as the commands and terminologies are different. But if you have never used PS before - there is no issue then about usability.

Read the reviews... the 350D does not come with Elements. Another "cost-cutting measure".... <_<

aiyoh! Don't you just lurve them? Competitive at all cost. You only find out from the fine print.

They think that people who are buying the 350D are first SLR timers anyway and would not miss the PS Elements that was given to earlier buyers of the 300D, ah?

Find somebody who has a 10D/300D and get the CD from them lah - easier.

i see 2 learning curve here. Either go for PS or GIMP. Both you really had to start learning from scratch since Org Baru, on my assumption, had never used either of those 'powerfull' image editing software before.
Both are good. One is free with free of updates (GIMP) and another (PS) is expensive with lot's of free/paid plugins.
If i were in OrgBaru shoe, i would go for GIMP since he is using canon. GIMP doens't support Nikkon RAW file, in which, it is better to go for PS.

Just my 2 cent.... :P
