Fake Kingston

ok guys, since i was a bit free now, just here to share the original and fake version of kingston.

i'm sure some of u all hav know there are fake kingston around, so how to identify ?

1. if u using D70, at the time u try to push out the CF card, it is a bit harder and tight, original is just pop out easily.

heres some pix to shows.

In this card, u will see, the orange color on the top, is slightly diff, original is more darker orang while fake is lighter

second, at the side, which is in silver color metal, original are just flat wen u touch on it to the side of black plastic, as for fake, it is slightly curve a bit, which is not flat at all....

in this pix, u can see the MB wording which is in purple color.

for original is in light purple reflect while u see it from the light, as for fake, the purple is darker and no reflection at all...

and lastly, comparing with original 256 , 512 and a fake 256 mb...all of them are bought almost in da same month

at the left side is original, right hand side is fake

the main big diff is... at the fake CF card, the color on the surface tear out a lot if compare with original.

Thats all... hope this help and beware of it ;)

Wah..how u identify that is fake beside the peel off color......
I have two kingston CF card.but looks original......one is made in Taiwan another 1 is made in Japan..... All looks okay.... What about the package? How u identify them b4 u bought it...is there any indication?

Wow that scares me, I bought a 1GB Elite Pro II about 2 weeks ago at Low Yat. Not sure fake or ori, but noticed slow response when shooting in RAW and can't achive 3fps with D70. Not sure cos don't have others to compare. Hmmm. :dunno:

package is almost same.. i didnt figure out but just throw away d, but i can ask them to open for u to hav a look, there is a very special part which is on the second pix, the MB word is lighter + lil reflection or not ;)

looks like i've bought 2 pc of fake 512MB last year, coz its color is peeling all over.........but it works...........so not bother....aint nothing cheaper than kingston mah

yes, same as original so that some ppl cant realize it, just beware only... try to avoid it if posible, who like fakes one wor :lol: :dunno: :lol:

so who would be the reputable dealer that we can buy it from?

better still, who are the local distributors?

can't afford yet the lexars and sandisks..my deetujohpuloh no turbo speed like the deeduaeks... :lol:

a trustable and a kingston dealer is from low yat Cycom, i bought many memory card from them be4, but the fake one i got it in penang. ;)

as i said, the card performance dun hav any diff, but only the build of the card.

Just checked out my Kingston Elite Pro 1GB (bought from Low Yat, Sri Computers , RM 275 on 4th April 2005). The "MB" and the "Kingston" words are purple when viewed from above , and changes to green when viewed from a 45 degree vertical angle. Cool. So I guess it's ori! :) Oh, and it's pretty fast on my 350D too..

well.. it doesnt matter, and i adi forgot whr i saw it, just click here click there, saw it long time ago d, the purpose i posted here is to aware of fake prod only.. next time if got outing i'll show u my fake one, now the memory card seems like a bit lose on the build d, wanna broke like that :(

FYI, the purple color is printed using security ink. It's actually called Opitcal variable ink or OVI. It should change color depending on the angle of viewing.

this thread remind me about one tauke kedai gambar last year...at that time i'm searching for an SD card for my old Lumic-FZ10..he offers me a card that so cheap (the pana*****) brand one...i asked why so cheap...he told me that that one is china made...the japanese made one is more expensive...

I think if you asked the tauke is it real one or the fake but working one they will tell you laaa...

Hi everone.

I bought a new (i tought it was) Kingston 256MB CF card. I tested it on my sister's Coolpix 2100, and my friend's Nikon D70 and Olympus E-1.

Supprizingly, all ok with the Coolpix and E-1. The D70 keep showing a "CHR" sign (in the frame conter section) each time i loaded the CF. and it took some time for the D70 to read/reconized the card when it is loaded.

It still usable with D70 but each time u turn the switch off, the "CHR" sign reappear again for a while before being able to take a shot.

From my viewing inspection, it got the security ink like you all mentioned. Is it the old CF version with low-speed spec? or is it a damage card?

I'll try to post the pic of the card as soon as possible.

You are wrong. This site implies some are made in places other than Japan/Taiwan.
(Although most of em are either taiwan {faster samsung controller} or japan {toshiba controller})

The security ink varies from purple-green-black.
Also the sticker will show full info as the website (for new cards).

2003 Kingston 256MB i got from Davidnikon is from RENESAS (Hitachi). (Can see RENESAS partly covered near the bottom right, top side)

Apacer 256MB i got is a relabelled sandisk. (Can see AR0304 - or similar codes on the side)

I would be highly suspicious if the cards don't have any markings.

hi everyone... just some update.

i dont know how to tell, i mean the differences either fake or original kingston.

but my experiences with the kingston shows that a standard 256MB and 512MB CF kingston is not fully compatible with a D70 and D70s as the card always shows "CHR". must carefully format before use.

but still "CHR" pops out and the DSLR hangs...

i dont have experiences with Elite Pro model. since then i switch totally to Sandisk. either fake or ori sandisk, i still didnt know how to tell either. but no problems since.

So-called OEM cards sold with only the white plastic casing and no proper retail packaging are fake (for sure-lah :P).

Retail units from Lowyat plaza (Czone Cycom Viewnet Thundermatch etc) all should be original

You got to use the Kingston Elite Pro series (50X) for some of the Nikon camera, this is because of the OS issue. Well..this is all I heard from my friend.
