Okay, some of you have heard of me talking about this. I have in mind a 7d9n photographic trip. So far david and ted had shown interest. The trip is to travel around west penisular Malaysia in 7d9n. Probably one day one place.

Anyone interested? Any special place you all can recomment? Any cheapo accomodation where we could crash? Planning to start from north and end in south.

Trip will be on within next few weeks, working out details now.

Right now the places I have in mind is Penang island, Ipoh/taiping, melaka, muar.

Feel free to suggest and also throw cold water on this matter. Those who are super free with nothing to do are always welcome to join this trip too.

I have a date in mind now. Leave 19th August night to the north most location, probably by train and then come back on 27th August night from south. Kenny, bring the mistress no problem, but do bear in mind this trip is planned on a tight budget thingie. We probably stay at cheap hotels and eat at mamaks. Unless of cause some rich dude want to sponser us? 8)

Eugene, instead of going to the west coast, try the east coast. Rent/buy/ride a bike for a week, travelling from one place to another. I know mountain bikers have been doing this for ages... it's the only way to get really close to Malaysia. Have a look at Joe Adnan's travel pages (make a search in Google).

Why east coast? Well, it's very much unaldulterated compared to west coast. People are also more receptive and more likely to respond to you on the road. Also, there's very few coverage of places like Mersing, Desaru, and Marang. Very picturesque and original.

I'm in.. depending whether I can get my leaves approved. Has the dates been confirmed?

eugene
27-07-2004, 05:41 PM
Let's not stray too far from the objective. Like I explained to matt, I plan this trip as a trial thingie for now. If the west coast trip pulls off, then perhaphs east can be next. Perhaphs even a bicycling trip to the east.

Okay, so far I have kenny, david and tim on the list. Who else?

Any places of interest we could go? Right now I have in mind,
Penang--->Ipoh/taiping---> Negri Sembilan/PD--->Melaka--->Muar--->JB
Care to suggest anymore?

YMCA would be the choice of stay at Penang and Ipoh. Mode of transport would usually be bus/trains. Budget aim for the whole trip, RM500++. Dates would probably be fixed for now unless otherwise mentioned, which is leaving on the 19th night from KL and coming back to KL on the 27th night.

Subjects of photographic interest are probably street scenes/shooting, architectures, mountain n hills n flowers n rivers, bikini clad ladies(David requested) and of cause the typical I-m-a-tourist-shots.

Do bear in mind all these are still in process of talks. Should be able to wrap it up by end of this week, so you guys could start taking leaves once things are confirmed.

eugene,

I am don't know any of you at the moment but if the date that you guys in Penang falls on Saturday or Sunday, i am more than happy to be the guide ( I am not from Penang either.. only know 20% - 30% of locations ). According to your schedules, I believe it is a bit difficult as it is on the 19th August ( Thursday ). I have earlier planned my stuffs where i have took leaves on 5th and 6th, 12th and 13th .. ie.. can't take any more leaves.

Another suggestions that I can give is that why not you guys contacts PMers from around the West Coast and then here you go.. you have instant tour guide.. I believe some may also wish to join the short trips at their place and get to know each other. Some may even have places for you to lay overnight if possible. This also good that you don't need to waste time figure out how to navigates in the places you are going... just my 2 cents.

yeah, i hope so, but then it will cost a lot, actually our main purpose is to travel around the Msia with just like a tourist, walking around, taking bus and train, shoot watever there is something nice, thats all lo

langkawi-perlis-penang-ipoh-cameron highlands-(kl)-N9-malacca-muar-johore

good idea too ! Hmm.. actually we did discuss about going to langkawi, but it would be waste lots of time there, cameron highlands..... haha... i scare vormit, lol , but that place is quite nice, prob is how do we travel to cameron ? i dun think we spending a night there lo, coz i think the hotel or accom will be quite expensive then, hmmm..... any other sugg for place to go ?

Btw..

I was reading and wonder.. for 7d's and 8n's..

How are you going to make this trip a true photographic trip with..

langkawi-perlis-penang-ipoh-cameron highlands-(kl)-N9-malacca-muar-johore

i think there will not be really much time to do much photography..

Just my opinion.. perhaps choose 3-4 main destinations.. and then focus.. coz you will also have to cater for poor weather and things like that..

malek
28-07-2004, 02:59 PM
hmmm... too many places to go, very short period of time.. can be difficult.

why dont you guys concentrate on shooting only the big town..eg. the main town..

hey ppl me just got back from Phuket, Thailand, the place is so beautiful, infact langkawi is nothing compare to phuket.
My holiday package was RM 300+ AirAsia return ticket and 3d2n 5star accomadation.
Island hoping range around RM 60 per person, car rental about RM80 for 24hrs.
Well me planning to go back there for a longer stay maybe 5d4n.
Budget about RM1k per person (excluding shopping)

Okay..here's a suggestion. How about going to states with PM-er in it. My suggestion of destination are,

Penang--->Ipoh/Taiping---> Melaka--->Muar--->JB

Leave on 19th night by train, arrive butterworth next morning.

Spend one day at Penang and stay at YMCA.

Leave for Taiping early morning. Leave Taiping and check in at YMCA Ipoh later that night.

Spend whole day at Ipoh and leave it at night. Probably take a train/bus down to Melaka.

Reach Melaka the next day. Spend whole day here and probably whole night here.

Next would go Muar. Then JB, and return.

Of cause, as mentioned earlier, the return date is 27th night. So that leaves us with two free days if we were to just spend like 24hrs in each locations.

Among the suggested place, which day do you think we should spend a little more time on?

I would suggest Penang and Melaka. Then again, it's up to you all. Majority counts.

It only takes an hour from Melaka to head to Muar. I strongly suggest Muar because it is a interesting town. Malek can vouched for me here, right? Taiping to Ipoh only takes an hour of travelling too, so we can make it a day trip to Taiping. Sides, I heard that some one has a 10seater van from Ipoh  .

Well? How did it go?

eugene
30-07-2004, 02:02 AM
Okay, here's more or less it. This is the final agenda..

19th night: Leave KL by train to Penang.

20th-21st: Penang.

22nd: Leave Penang in morning and head to Taiping. Leave Taiping and head for Ipoh at night.

23rd: Ipoh

24th-25th:Leave Ipoh by bus and head to Melaka

26th: Take bus down Muar

27th: Leave Muar and head to JB. Leave JB evening back to KL.

I would need members that are not in this trip to bring us around. Any members would be free and interested? Malek? Zaman?

Ted would not be joining us on the northen part of the trip. If he do not have work, he would join us beginning 24th. He would drive and we would all hitch a ride from him.

Accomodation at Penang and Ipoh would be at YMCA. Anyone know any cheap good quality hotel in Melaka or Muar? Do suggest.

PM-ers who could not join the trip, do feel free to meet up with us for Teh Tarik when we are in your state. KK, the trip down JB is especially for you. We are all very keen to meet up with one of our founders. :P

Estimated budget should be about RM500++ (only covers meals, transport and accomodation)

As you can see, I had only fixed the date and state of travelled. I did not fixed any specific location in that state to be visited. This agenda remains open for discussion.

Now that the itenary and timeline is out, who's interested? Do give your name and confirmation ASAP.

I'll start..

Seems like the trip doesn't have good responses.. I have asked my other friends that I mentioned in my previous post. So far one has replied that he is interested to know more friends in the photography worlds.. especially from other states. He has forwarded to some of the Nikon gang to see if they will want to join for the Penang sessions. It is however that he cannot put a confirm on the attendance and only manage to put as tentative.. do let me know if the trip is firmed.
