Hey what about chickens? They always watch their pals getting slaughtered from a grandstand view.
Or cows in a field of slaughter? Seen the tears?

Do you think it is cruel? Like choen said, it's just like seeing cows, pigs, or any other animals that we consider "eatable". It's a cultural aspect! We don't pet (not often I'd say) cows and pigs, so an image of it, cut wide open, is not as brutal as this one! I say brutal, cz I instantly thought of my pal's dog.
Lets face it people, this is nothing different than what we're used to see!
It's just a different "species", in a different "culture".

Nope.
and I don't quite understand people who squeal at the sight of slaughter but never become a full time vegetarian. defies logic.

ever heard of the saying... ignorance is bliss?
How many of us actually have the 'opportunity' to watch animals being slaughtered on a daily basis? Have you?
Even a person like me who emerges from a Kampung have never really seen animals being slaughtered at the marketplace.
It doesn't mean that I wont quiver with emotions when I see other animals being slaughtered. It doesn't make any difference whether it is a dog, a chicken, a cow or a pig. It will still affect me either way.
Call me shallow, call me innocent. I have always had the world around me 'sanitized' by the people who love me, people who know how sensitive and emotional I am in nature. What you dont know can't hurt you. Oblivion sometimes is the better alternative when you know you can't handle it.
And that is why I am not a lawyer today.

PPL become vegetarian more for the reason that the force feeding + chem + disgusting habitation the owners use , makes them feel really sick and grossed out rather than than it is to do with cruelty with animals. ask your fellow vegetarian why they only makan sayur only.... it's for your own body.. not entire as much as it is about slaughtering
most vegetarians ( esp western europeans) will gladly eat free range meats...

What can you say, human is the most cruel animal in the planet. Dog (& cat) meats are common in China. You can see the skinned dogs hanging in the restaurant during winter time.
Zerocusa, you got message.

Zerocusa, I think you should put only the link to the pic in message with some advisory or warning message of the graphic nature of the pic and not insert the image in the message. <_< I think it's just distasteful to direclty show those kind of images on forums like this. My 2 sen.

Ignorance is bliss? I've heard that many times but I don't like subsribing to it. I try to learn the ugly truths when I can. I'd rather have the knowledge than live in perceived bliss.
I've had the opportunity of visiting several abattoirs in my lifetime. You don't have to love it to accept that the fillet steaks and satay you love are pieces of slaughtered animal. You just have to appreciate that somehwere, someone is doing the dirty job you won't, so you enjoy your cuts. You also don't have to be from some kampung to be able to witness slaughter. I believe Pudu market in the heart of KL also got.
And as we have our way of life, so do others. Who is MORE right is always in contention. I may not look at dogmeat as my source of food... but I am aware that others do, and I will not pretend I do not know and all is bliss and I will not force MY way of life upon them in their homes.

In my case oblivion is not about not knowing the truth or deceiving yourself as to the truth. It is just that I choose not to remind myself of the harsh truth, not because I'd rather live a superficial life, but because I simply can't handle it.
I have not been able to master the art of detachment in emotions. I am the kind of person who cannot look and watch on without allowing myself to be swayed and affected. Allow me to provide an illustration and you will understand my predicament. This is a real life experience.
When I was dong my chambering, particularly when I was doing legal aid, I had the opportunity to be exposed to all kinds of people; whether law enforcers, the accused persons, the lawyers, the judges, etc. My function then was to provide legal advice to people accused of crimes, i.e. the accused persons. Needless to say, I talked to many people accused of different forms of crimes - drugs, theft, assault etc.
I came to know this person... who was accused of causing grievous hurt. From the charge itself, the crime looks pretty simple and straightforward. But until today... I still cannot shake it off my mind of what happened. Until today the entire incident continues to haunt me...
This guy asked a boy to help him with collecting firewood. I cannot remember the age of the boy, but the boy obliged and helped him. What happened to the boy?
The guy took a large piece of wood, and stuck it up his anus all the way up to his chest.
The boy survived, but is permanently crippled. This guy has committed the same act on a previous occassion, and on that ocassion the victim died.
I shivered all day and felt so sick I had to leave work early that day. After reaching home, I just lied on the bed with a blank expression the entire day. I couldnt' sleep at nite, and that blank expression lasted for a whole week. I dreaded going to work, and I was on medical leave for a while. Until today I am still unable to erase that off my mind. Until today I still have nitemares of the entire incident; until today I still quiver with emotion whenever it crosses my mind. And this, for something I only heard of and didn't witness for myself.
It is a weakness I am never afraid to admit. It is one of the many character flaws that I have. It is my limitation. But if you were my parents, you would also try your best to shield me from anything that would trigger this self destructive behaviour.
I am learning day by day, putting in as much effort as possible to grow up, to be strong so that I can also be strong for others. But until I do, oblivion is still the better alternative.

I used to cut up frogs and mice while was in 6th Form, and not too long ago photographing a group of students doing autopsies in a medical uni in pahang.
I grew up in and around a hospital as well.
Your sup ekor / torpedo / daging etc?
Not much difference either.

Wow... that hit you pretty hard. I'm sorry you had to... or are going through this.
A lot of people cope with these things. It doesn't mean they're any more heartless or hardened... although it means they've prepared themselves for the job at hand. Some can... some can't ... and of course there are those who don't require any preparation and I'm not talking about them.
I know student doctors who fainted or screamed the first day of anatomy. But the real dropout rate is extreeeemely low. But med schools also provide all the right people you can talk to if you're finding difficulty. Have you talked to anyone at all for professional help or advice?

1) The guy took a large piece of wood, and stuck it up his anus all the way up to his chest.
2)I know student doctors who fainted or screamed the first day of anatomy.
3)other examples similar to the above.
anybody can get used to the concept of anything.
the human psyche is capable of adapting to profound changes.
i suppose we were made weaker once protected from the harsher realities of life at large.
its only something that needs overcoming, not hiding from.
