There is a suggestion to own a dedicated server to host PhotoMalaysia. Brian is working on it right now (Is that right. Brian?). I believe the burden of acquiring and hosting a dedicated server should be shared by all members here. I personally have hours and hours of great fun here and meeting no less than 40 members of the forum up close and personal. (hope to meet more in the near future  )
Now this forum has grown to something more than just virtual acquaintance....the friendships are real. The members here have shared their own experiences in both the hardware and picture taking experiences to assist fellow members to improve their photographic skills.
Over the past year or so that I was a member here I have seen great improvement among the newbies and photo enthusiasts. Some members like ted and a few others have taken the initiative to organise PM outings.
Again I would like to put up this disclaimer: The writer is in no way related to the founders of PM, equipment manufacturer, retailer and/or have interest in other than his own personal interest in photography.

Brian, are you open to the idea of renting a dedicated server based in Malaysia? I've some friends running farms and I am already asking them about the costs.

maxby, I have been leasing a dedicated server for PM since March.
choen, that's fine...but if that's the case it might also be better if someone local takes over things, too? That's a personal decision up to everyone here and if it goes that way I will transfer the domain names to the individual(s) selected and ask for no reimbursement of any sort for costs over the past 3 years. Software licenses, too (like for the members gallery). It has never been about the money and I don't want anyone to think that I am the sort that will try and keep control. From a technical standpoint, this might be better because a local would have more consistant/stable access to the server. On the downside, it will mean that International users will have slower overall access with some random instability. But then, I might be the only international user

...On the downside, it will mean that International users will have slower overall access with some random instability. But then, I might be the only international user  Well, it would certainly make sense to have the server in M'sia if it's called PhotoMalaysia and has most of its members from here.
I think you know you're not the only international person here. There's Singapore, India... where else?

I was just saying that if you do want to host the server there it would be faster and more convinient for someone there to also handle the development & maintainence. If that's the case, I would freely hand over the domains & payed-for software licenses to the individual(s) in question.

Thanks, ted. Your name now graces the main page :)
So everyone know & to remain transparent, the donations above equal ~15% of PMs annual reoccuring hosting costs (which are US$1200). Since the server can't be paid for directly through Kho, he will be using the funds donated to him for PM promotional purposes (like the stickers thing b4...he has some other stuff in mind). All the funds donated through the PayPal (https://www.paypal.com/xclick/business=donation%40photomalaysia.com&item_name=PhotoMalaysia+Donation&item_number=PMDON-OPEN&no_note=1&tax=0¤cy_code=USD) account go directly to the server lease.
