About a month ago I had mentioned in a thread that the girl up front at my local prolab had mentioned that they could scan up to 120mm 6x9 at a cost of NT$10 per frame. Being the "clueless & cute" sort that makes better advertising to males then a knowledgebase, she couldn't really give me any details on what machine was used, resolution, etc...
This last Saturday I went on a daytrip to Tamsui (near Taipei). Having been there dozens of times and having hundreds of pics to prove it I decided to challenge myself and brought only my lightmeter, RB67+90mm, and a couple of backs (one with B&W and one with color tranny). After taking the finished rolls to be developed (only NT$25/roll thanks to the 'digital revolution' :P ) and scrutinizing them, I picked some and had them scanned at the lab. At that time I discovered that they had 2 resolutions available...'ten dollar' and 'twenty dollar'. Again, no details from the sweet girl at the front who could only say that the NT$20 was 'bijiao da'. I picked the NT$20/frame.
What I got back were 5995x4748px, 82MB uncompressed scans taken on their Noritsu machine. Detail and color rendition was good. There was a visible softness around the edges followed by a black border (which was not even on all sides) which leads me to belive that each image was probably aligned by hand within a general 120 adapter.
Kinda cool. :)
BTW, anyone familiar with Taiwan recognize this guy? He was in Tamsui promoting an opening of one of his taichi massage joints. (Mamiya RB67 + 90mm Sekor C on Velvia 100, 1/15s@f3.8 handheld...which explains the *really* warm color & softness :P )
