          Re: Malaysia popular photography magazine

FYI, all the terms in BM for photography already being done and in Kamus Dewan if you want to find it. such terms like shutter speed (kelajuan pengatup), contrast (kesenjangan), f-stop (hentian f), depth of field (jarak jelas) etc....why i know this? because my photography lecturer was one of the board members in determining the BM terms for photography to be put into the Kamus Dewan (Prof Musa Abu Hassan)

For years I'm hoping for a local magazine that has the essence of 'LIFE' magazine in terms of photojournalism content.

                Yeah...and LIFE died.

Heh... they actually use "tetikus" these days... Forget the term for keyboard. Probably "papan kekunci".

My take on the magazine situation.

Chinese magazines started out first because photography, back in the old days, was associated with the Chinese. All the old photo studios and businesses were Chinese. Even today, most people in the camera trade are Chinese. This was also probably largely true among serious hobbyists (the ones who would actually read magazines). Even today, at KLPF, they had Chinese language lectures, and most of the people who gave opening speeches spoke in Chinese (probably Mandarin, I can't tell...). So there's (still) a large, natural audience.

The point about local Chinese magazines being able to source articles and material from Hong Kong/Taiwan is something I hadn't thought about, good point.

I think photo magazines are a dying thing, anyway - these days people go online for their information. Compare the 1970s versions of Popular Photography with any of the modern magazines - a great deal more serious, a lot more actual meat in the articles. I don't read ANY photo magazines these days.
