  • PMPE 13, Autumn Silk Route PhotoSafari, 15th to 31st October 2011

This PMPE PhotoSafari trip is back by popular demand. We went on this trip last autumn and we have a lot of requests to organise this trip again this year. Especially for those who have missed out on the last trip. Autumn is a very good time to go on a Silk Route trip as the weather is cool and the autumn colors are rich. This year we are taking a slightly different route and it is slightly cheaper than the last trip (we have saved on 2 internal flights). We have chartered a bus to take us through the land route. This arrangement will allow us to have more space for equipment and flexibility in our schedules.

Please email me : maxbee@gmail.com for further details on the itinerary and pricing.

We are planning this trip early because of the annual leave and flight From KL to Chengdu and back.

If you book the flights early it is very much cheaper than last minute bookings.

Here are a few pictures of participants of the Silk Route PhotoSafari last year. You can CLICK HERE to see more pictures. The picture below shows PMPE Old Silk Road participants shooting a Diversifolious Poplar tree deep in the Taklimakan Desert

This is a group picture shot by PMPE Participant Davie Gan, at 3500 meters, on the way to Lake Karakul.

And this is Azmi's picture shot through the window of our bus. No time to sleep with this sort of scenes whizzing by, and too bored to stop because there are so many much nicer scenes to shoot.

This is Davie Gan's picture of the dunes behind the Crescent Moon lake of Dunhuang.

A typical view by the roadside, shot by Khair, when crossing the Taklamakan Desert. The straw matting and straw fencing is to prevent the Taklamakan Desert from swallowing the road. Tak-la-ma-kan in the local language means, "if you enter, you dont come out"

Davie Gan shooting the dunes at dusk in the Gobi Desert

      Another group photo...by Azmi..

A ghost in a town that belongs to another time...by Maxby

TY Ooi flying tandem in a motorised paraglider over the Flaming Mountains

And if you like lamb.....the roast lamb cooked by the Uyghurs are simply out of this world. Their lamb is a mix of mountain goat and sheep and the meat is like no other...

Lamb satay, anyone? Khair and Azmi can finish 50 skewers each...

And here is PM Member Khair sampling some of the world's sweetest grapes right off the vine...
There are more than 250 varieties of grapes in Turfan, and since Uyghurs are Muslims and they dont drink wine, these grapes are converted into the sweetest raisins in the world, all air dried..

We already have the minimum number of participants to make this trip viable.

Poplar trees on the edge of the Taklamakan Desert. The leaves have turned golden yellow in autumn. These trees live for a thousand years and even if it dies, it will stand a thousand years before rotting.

We have purchased our AirAsia tickets yesterday. The prices of airfares are going up due to the increase in price of oil. So those who have registered, please buy your tickets early otherwise you will have to pay more if you wait.
