        I wouldnt know, i think it's not natural mud of the normal mangrove substrate. I think it's sedimented mud from elswhere brought in from the river.

          Iron binding with clay material , high redox-Oxidize activities...make the sedimentation mangrove mud look orange in color.

                    Yeah it does, doesnt it? It actually accentuates the stilt roots or the Rhizophota trees and the wavering buttress roots of the Xylocarpus tree left of the photo...

                      yup... laterite is rich in iron but this particular one looks like what Dr Norhayati mentioned...sedimentation from elsewhere rather than local iron deposit

                      note that it is even covering the stilt roots of the rhizophora
