  • Botak Bird of Parit Jawa

After Raptor Watch every year we went to Parit Jawa to see these Lesser Adjutant Storks(LAS). This globally threatened Stork is an uncommon resident. Somehow it breeds in Muar/Batu Pahat mangroves and the best place to see them is Parit Jawa. Besides the place is famous for the Assam Pedas where the locals have it for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

when we arrived it was evening and the LAS did not failed to give us an aerial display and occasional clapping of bill. Next morning we counted 10 of them and that is many.

It feed on fish and food that can be found in mud, hence the dirty beak and legs

    cheers

Nice shots there, Aziz. I really like the 2nd shot.
Though they're really fugly birds, I get really exicted when we see them at Kuala Gula. We saw about 3-4 of them on my 3rd trip to Kuala Gula. You're right...10 of them is really fortunate. Good deal!

Great capture, Aziz! I've yet to learn how to take pics of bird-in-flight.

Nice to have met you yesterday.

Sama-sama. You don't have to go to Parit Jawa to shoot wild birds. I will take you when it stop raining in the afternoons to try your 200-400mm lense at Rawang. The sun if possible should be behind your back when taking flight shots. You can try to shoot white birds against a wide cloud and compare those against a blue sky. Incidently Master Ted will hold your hands on exposure settings.

You will get plenty of practise at Rawang Insya Allah. Send me a PM.

here are some more shots taken at Parit Jawa this time of the Grey Heron.

are those botak bird naturally botak or is it cause by the contamination in their food source?

coz i've seen birds in kl which becomes botak after prolong feeding of leftover garbage

I am planning to drive to Parit Jawa for a day trip and try my luck at bird shoting. Never been there, could anyone share with me the exact location where I can try my luck ? Thanks.
