I agree that the first black & white was poor and that was because I was lazy and only Desaturated it.
This time I used photoshop and did the following:
1. Added a Channel Mixer layer and tweaked the channels to 55% red, 45% green, 0% blue.
2. Added a Levels layer to set Black & White Points respectively. (by holding down the Alt key and sliding on the arrows, you will be able to see when the Black and White points begin. I tightened the range a bit more than necessary)
3.Altered the Gamma to 1.08
4. Added a Curves layer and made an S curve to increase contrast.
5. Added another Curves layer (for the Burns) and this time dragged a single point downwards to the right (shaped like a slide).
6. Inverted the layer (Ctrl-I)
7. Selected a 75 point soft brush (WHITE color) and set on 15% transparency, I Burned sections of the clouds (above the distant street lights) with light brushes.
What do you think of this?
What am i doing wrong?
