Prices on amazon says $550 for the body and $830 for the 50mm-sensor set = US$1380 for a APS-C 50mm camera

With the APS-C sensor,... I think it will still be cheaper than the E-P1, E-P2 and GH-1.
This will really pose a threat to the Micro Four Thirds market.

changing sensor... a bit funny, i still hope a cam can use both film and digital, not to mention the super exepsensive leica R9 w digital module

the design def looks a bit ugly, well hack, see how it goes

Ricoh cameras are for people with one thing in mind,,,solid, good camera with good performance. All my friends who held my GRII for the first time all ask me...what camera is this? they instinctly know the camera is different by holding it and also looking at the pictures it takes. i would settle for this GXR anytime in place of the PENS and Pen-woulod-bes. Just look at the picture here.

yep, you got it spot-on there. i myself have the grd1, & it's the one camera that i
won't let go off, even including dslr but there is no question that ricoh makes you pay through the nose for their wonderful cameras.

i hope the gxr is a success. i sure would like to own one but to get the cam with the 50mm prime will set you back anywhere between 4.5 to 5k. that's a lot of money. and the 50mm module is bulky. i would have been a lot nicer if they could graft one of pentax's lovely da primes on to it. that would make it compact and irresistible.

IMHO, All GRD models still could not live up to the hype and standards set by the old GR film cameras.
They are still the best cameras built by Ricoh, and it is the reason why I will choose them. They are the best compact film cameras built, alongside the Contax T series counterparts. With the Tri-X, HP5 and Fujifilms, they are just amazing.

i've heard a lot about the gr film cameras, & its best known proponent, moriyama daido, if i'm not mistaken. but hey, that's full frame, you know? & anyway film is
no longer practical for most of us. if you have the space, time & resources to
set up yr own b&w lab, it'd be cool. even so, films are getting harder to come by.

like it or not, it's the digital era now, dude. & digital has a lot of advantages. & the grd takes fantastic b&w. esp at iso 400. small sensors can be an advantage.

No. Depending on the type of lens package, it has a AP-C sensor.
