On the 7D, if you look in the Menu, Battery Information, they show you the shutter count. But this shutter count will reset to 0 once you remove the battery.
It would be good if anyone have any software or other trick to found out the actual shutter count.
Opanda doesnt work with Canon, try this http://astrojargon.net/EOSInfo.aspx
I have similar problem. EOS Info unfortunately can't connect to my 7D. Got Microsoft .NET Framework error message. Any other software?
tested EOSinfo, which used to work on digic4 50d, now it doesnt work with 7d, looks like Canon changed the behavior
I think the APIs for 7D has been change by Canon. Most probably due to Dual Digic 4 processor issue.

If any one know any link or software, pls let us know here...
if you set image name to shutter count, and set it continuous.. the number will keep increasing as the shutter count increase. it wont reset automatically to zero if u change the bat or memory card. u can only reset manually to zero. this way u can know your shutter count.
if u dont set continuous, image name will be reset to zero (example- img01) with every memory card inserted. the disadvantages is that u can easily get more than one file with same name in different memory card. problem if u want to keep them in the same folder in PC.
This shutter count found under battery info menu. It counts no of shots since previous recharge not total count of the body. It will reset to 0 when you charge the battery, not by remove it.
So far, no software found to read actual count. What I did was maintain number to continuous, and observe folder no as well.
talking about shutter count per battery or total shutter count of the body ?
Go to download OPANDA IEXIF, this software can read and tell you everythings about your camera. Just load your latest photo into this software, you will know your actual shutter count.
opanda only works for Nikon. For canon with digic3/4, you can use http://astrojargon.net/files/misc/setupeosinfo.exe
