David, after almost 3 years, your benro still ok? Just want to know because now looking for 1 good tripod. After recent putrajaya outing, it seem that I need to buy 1 la to replace my cap ayam tripod.
hi david
currently i m stracthing my head to find a good combination tripod coz i m planning to travel later...
i have been searching every old thread across many forum and at last come into here which support benro...
i m also a "poor man gitzo"that find this tripod within my budget rm600...
i m consider myself is tall, 180cm that my stratching my head to find 1...
my best combination is benro a-650ex with benro kb-0...
initially i wan to choose manfrotto ball head but many comment that screw type provide better lock mechanism...
my perception is that choosing a good ball head is better than choosing a good tripod...
it is advisable? table of research is here
Hi Micheal,
tripod wise if you looking for something light weight, you can go for the EX or best is M or C which i think M and C are out of ur budget. EX series you may look into the weight and the height that comfort you the most
if u looking for manfrotto tripod, not much choice but 190 is a bit low for you but 055 is just nice, weight wise 055 is super heavy.
in terms of ball head, i'd go for giottos, and yes manfrotto head tend to be a bit kaki lembut if u holding a heavy lens, when you lock it it will slightly move, it happen to all 484/486/488.
after i sold my 488, i got myself a benro KJ series, its good like an anternative of markins, but in terms of long lasting .... the rubber grip on the knob started to tear after 6 month X_X
tripod is a one time spending and last you for long, evantually i go for gitzo and markins head, really no complain and very happy with it now![]()
Micheal,
I found the best travel tripod, solid built yet under 1kg is Velbon MAX i 343E, small folded size, and very light weight, used it for my Perth backpack trip, I felt much happier than using Victory (1.9kg) previously in Gold Coast. Support up to 3kg max load, if you use it as monopod with 4kg load, I guess still quite ok. I got it for RM1XX from Key Color @ MidValley, where can u find such quality under RM200?
Specifications
Head Type: ballhead
Maximum Load: 6.61 lbs. (3kg)
Maximum Height: 72.83 in.
Minimum Height: 16.93 in.
Folded Length: 17.48 in.
Weight: 1.9 lbs. (0.86kg)
Leg Sections: 4
Tripod Bag: With Bag
Quick Release: Without Quick Release

giottos ball head? i will put it in my consideration...
thanks to david and autobot![]()
i'm using that giottos ballhead. small but holding power is great. search the forum here and u will find my previous posting about giottos.
Thanks for a great review on Benro. Being a newbie, I fail to comprehend the association of $$ to tripod. China made. Italy made. As long as they stand firm on the ground.![]()
thanks everyone, this thread has provided me with tonnes of great info. right now im using sakura brand that i got free many years ago. on my recent trip to cameron, i tried to take HDR pictures and good God, there are so many mis-alignment even after photomatix's auto alignment magic.
heard a lot of good reviews about giotto's ballhead, but not sure whether their legs are equally as good, would drop by to my local shops to learn more about these. thanks!
