UniColor C41 1litre Kit (powder) & Kodak XTOL - expression of interest

Seeing "g_c" trying out his C41 home kit has made me curious.
I have a photographer friend in the US who is able to puchase and courier 1litre UniColor C-41 Kits.

The instructions are downloadable from the link below:
    http://www.box.net/shared/g2ptvfj7ki

Based on his calculated shipment, I need to ship a minimum of 10 make the shipment feasible other wise the cost of courier based charges in KL makes it too expensive (via DHL or FedEX).

The calculated maximum price with 10 orders is RM 105.00 per unit.
I won't order unless I have about 7 to 8 interested parties. So any of you are game, let me know by replying to the thread.

He can also get B&W developers (powder) Kodak XTOL for 5 Litre. The shipment of this is just plain expensive. But the XTOL does give very good shadows, with the finest grains at max sharpness. With the calculated shipping and handling of these 5 litre (powder) is works out to be RM 80.00 each, again we need at least 10 packs.

5 litre is alot, but he says that the 1 litre packs shipping costs is pretty high. And with a kitchen scale perhaps you can divide them into 5 equal parts for 1 litre each, they should make about 15 rolls (maybe 20) per litre.. you will need to increase processing time.

BTW.. is there taxes in Malaysia for Photo chemicals? The prices did not take into account taxes.

    Hi, Raymond.

For your information, you can order the Unicolor Kit (1 or 2-litre) directly from freestylephoto.biz.

    http://freestylephoto.biz/c1001-Colo...ls-Color-Print

The 1-litre kit is selling at USD17.99 & 2-litre kit is USD32.99. The shipping cost depends on the quantity ordered and the shipping company (either Fedex or USPS).

If you order more than 5 packs, the cost is pretty cheap.

    For example:

    6 packs 1-litre kit: 6 x USD17.99 = 107.94
Shipping cost by Fedex to KL = 76.86
    Total cost is USD184.80
    184.80 x 3.1 = RM572.88
Hence the cost for 1-litre is RM95.48

I e-mailed them, they replied that it shouldn't be a problem to send this to Malaysia.

I believe there's no duty for or this item (as I've bought one from Taiwan before).

If you really want to buy, there are something you must take note:
    1. You need to register an account with them (FOC, no charge)
    2. For first time buyer, they need to verify your credit card particulars with the card issuing bank before they proceed with your order.
    3. Also for first timer, they only ship the products to your credit card billing address, (not to your shop or office if the billing address is not there).
    4. You cannot buy those products in liquid form.

I'd advise you to buy the 1-litre pack, if you do not have many films to process within a short period. You may keep the original packing (in sealed condition) for many years, but once you opened up or made it into liquid, you cannot keep it too long.

If you really want to buy, I may consider to "tumpang" 1 pack (if the cost for 1-litre pack is less than RM100).

    Hope this helps.

Hi all. If they can direct ship to Malaysia, then it may reduce the double cost of shipments. Will check out the site. Thanks.

Before I buy the Jobo processor,I also using he conventional method to do processing, controlling the temperature is first heat a bath of water to about 40 degree Celsius, use a aquarium heater that can set to 40 degree Celsius type, put it the the water bath, this will control the water at 40 degree Celsius by itself, place all the chemicals that need to control at 38 degree in the water for half and hour together with the film tank, this will ensure the chemicals temperature will not drop when the temperature controlled chemicals when it pour in.

Freestyle definitely can ship to Malaysia. I have ordered 3 times from them before. But shipping is expensive, much better to have a small group ordering at the same time to reduce individual's shipping costs.

Amongst other things, yes I've ordered the C41 kit, though it wasn't for me but for a friend. So far I've ordered films, chemicals, papers, steel tank and reels, darkroom equipment etc. Normally those are stuff that are difficult to source or selling at a much higher prices here.

I mostly bought powder B&W chems - XTol, D76, Dektol. Powder chemicals are normally lighter and hence cheaper shipping costs. But I've also bought Moesch Eco 4812 paper developer in liquid form.
