We have arrived safely from Bali a couple of hours ago. It was a great trip. We went island hopping and finally ended up in Komodo Island. Luck was with us, we managed to witness the mating ritual of the komodo dragons. It was an adventure of a lifetime. Perhaps I will let the other members tell their own story.
Here is the photo of one of the pristine beaches of the coral islands we visited along the way to the Komodo Island.

Komodo Dragons
Komodo is one of the 17,508 islands that make up Indonesia. The island covers a surface area of 390 sq metres and has over 2,000 population living in a village. The inhabitants are descendants of former convicts who were exiled to the Island and who have inter-married with the Bugis from Sulawesi. Most of the inhabitants are Muslims.
Komodo is part of the Lesser Sunda chain of islands and forms part of the Komodo National Park and lies between the substantially larger neighbouring islands Sumbawa to the west and Flores to the east. What is particularly known here is the native Komodo dragons.
For centuries, a local tradition was to co-exist with the dragons by leaving behind parts of the deer after hunting or by sacrificing goats. This practice has maintained a co-existence relationship between humans and the dragons, which is why they survived here while they became extinct elsewhere.
In 1995, a conservation project was carried out to create a more natural habitat for the komodo dragons, prohibiting the feeding tradition as well as deer hunting. Consequently, the deer population increased and is now providing the dragons a more self-sufficient and natural hunting ground than before. A Komodo dragon normally can survive without food for a month.
Nevertheless, the Komodo dragon remains a symbolic attraction of the island, attracting a large number of visiting tourists, providing employment and supporting the local economy. The Komodo Island is not only known for its heritage of convicts and fearsome dragons but also for its rich marine life and excellent scuba diving sites.

Now it is the mating season for the dragons and the mating ritual is quite aggressive.
The aggressive male dragon seems to be smaller than the female.
The female dragon escapes but slightly scracthed near the frontal right limb.
The male dragon chooses not to continue with the mating because of our presence in taking pictures.
The injured deer with one horn broken and bitten on the rear. The deer seems to have been recently attacked by the dragons. The deer was too weak to move and it is dying because of the poisonous bite of the dragons. The dragons will return and feed on the injured deer.

Our boat cum accommodation quarters for the 2 days/1 night Island hopping. The boat was manned by a 5 men crew and it included a cook. We had our meals on board.

Pink Beach or Pantai Merah is one of the few beaches in the world that has pink gravel. When the waves roll over the sand, the pink base would be exposed, hence its name.

Komodo is not poisonous creature. They do not inject poison in their bites.
