Stars Gazing alongside Manawatu River

Hey guys,

Weather was fine yesterday. It's been sunny and cloudless sky the whole day so I decided to walk alongside Manawatu River at night, having my first time shooting Milky Way.

So, these are the pictures I managed to get :

An incomplete star trails. The battery got flat around 15 minutes after the first shot.



For this picture, I put my tripod close to the water while I set my camera on timer before running up to give a pose.

Thanks macbrianmun. I was actually planning to take continuous 30sec single exposure for approximately one hour. But after 15mins, battery got flat. So total up pics that I managed to capture were only around 37 pictures that I merged later on.

Hey Jarred, thanks Yep, this is NZ. I'm studying here. I'm using 24-70mm f/2.8 for all of these shots. For star trails, I shoot at 30sec of exposure for single frame, continuously for (a supposed,) one hour at f/11 which I later merged it using software. And for shooting Milky Way, I used the widest aperture available which is f/2.8 for around 10sec. I shoot in RAW and using Nikon Capture NX2 for post-processing. N for focusing, I used manual focus to infinity. The first shot was actually two pictures that I merged together using Microsoft ICE.

I salute you for taking the trouble to share your technique and exif info. Not every one who post their pictures here are willing to do so. You images are very nice. That makes the info you provided even more valuable especially for photographers who would like to replicate the images. Sure you retain the copyright. But you retain a lot of respect too.
