2nd question is . are there any M9 protection out there that is not in the form of a leather case?

Not sure if there's a similar base plate for the M9 besides the Luigi. I've seen a friend using it but the colour is not 100% similar to the body.

That's a Luigi replacement. My friend just bought the set, plate + leather 1/2 case.

But I use the battery grip which replace the whole bottom plate and it's a Leica part. Now I can mount the camera on a ball head without care that the bottom plate will be spoiled (for later sale).

The leather 1/2 case is the best and maybe the only protection available, I think. Apart from Luigi there are many 'copies' from China and some good products from Japan. Go to Keat Camera at Jalan Pudu, they have all the accessories.

You have to order from Luigi, that's what my friend did. And they want bank draft and not credit card!

But go to Keat Camera, they don't carry Luigi but some Japanese leather cases. Very well made.

Artisan Artist has some nice looking Leica case. You can view it at Schmidt showroom in Avenue K.
