Just got back from a trip to Mabul a couple of days ago. Although we only gotten one day permit to Sipadan, but I was glad to hang around Mabul and Kapalai longer than the previous years to spend time with some lovely critters.

Well done What lens did you use with the EPL2? I struggled getting decent closeups with the kit lens when testing and had to use MANY diopters!

I used the kit lens with one diopters. Some of the pictures above are cropped slightly

I am planning to either wait for the Oly macro lens, or go get myself 1 or 2 more diopters.

The Panasonic 45mm is great but cost so much... SOny's new 30mm macro does 1:1 and only costs about 900+ Makes the NEX system very very attractive for UW macro.... not to mention the fact that the NEX is a proper APS-C sized sensor, much bigger than most M4/3....

True that but the Nauticam housing burns a big hole in the pocket.

Olympus already announce their m4/3 macro lens. Just waiting to see if they fit into the housing or not.

30mm macro, such short focal length means we gotta move into the subject real close to achieve 1:1?

Unfortunately yes.... probably about 6cm away from the subject? Essentially renders diopters useless but gives you 1:1 still. I couldn't really manage with the Oly Kit lens though. Great to hear they will have their own macro lens! Any idea what will be the focal length? I did see a cheap housing for the 5N. Only 900RM and designed for the 30mm macro lens only. No focus gears, plastic housing similar to the Canon OEM housings. THey also had another one for the pancake lens Ideally, I would love to house a NEX7 in a Nauticam where I can port my 45 viewfinder over when doing stills, and remove it for video, using adapters for Nikon or Canon lenses and custom made focus gears from XIT404 OMG... imagine a Canon MPE-65 housed that way? Super macro heaven!

Kay, are you talking about the Taiwan made housing for the Nex5? I have been reading a number of reviews so far I have not come across any complains on that housing. The only "complain" is that the housing is fixed either for a pancake or kit lens. I am seriously considering getting the Nex5 plus the 30mm macro lens so to get the 1:1 for UWP. But still can't make up my mind as the Canon MPE-65 is foremost on my mind IF/when I jump ship. Nauticam already announced they are making a housing for the Nex7

I just sold my Canon EOS 40D to fund my upgrade from G10 diving rig to Oly m4/3. So MPE-65 is pretty much out of my reach for now. I decided to go for mirrorless because I cannot afford a dSLR housing + fish eye/ macro with its respective port and domes. In fact, I decided to get the oly because it is the most affordable mirrorless set up compared to panasonic and sony.
