Nikon D90 vs D3200

Hi, everyone, currently D3200 just released the selling price, and I found out that the price is being close to D90, just wondering which one I should get, just for your information, I have been using D40 for over 4 years, thinking of having a upgrading now, thanks for the suggestion and opinions..

D3200 is truly made a an entry level camera. Biggest gripe is the mediocre focusing performance and inability to use D-series lenses (Which would save you lots of money in the long run if you're building a lens collection. e.g. 50mm 1.8G=RM700+, 50mm 1.8D=RM300+), No being able to fully utilized the Commander feature of the Nikon flash/CLS system is another major handicap.

The D90 focuses decently, is able to use D-series lenses and is able to support Nikon's CLS system. However D90 is a really old camera circa-2008. It's focusing, sensor & processing technology if virtually obsolete.

The only real contender currently is the D7000. However Nikon is rumored to release a new range of cameras this year.

I would suggest neither and suggest the D7000 though. D40 and D3200 are entry level dslrs, although the technology is better in the D3200, but overall, they are in the same braket. From the controls, to limitations.

To 'upgrade' you need to step up into the next tier which is the D90/D7000 tier. Since D90 is nearly obsolete (although I was a full time D90 user), the natural choice, or the logical choice would be the D7000. It fulfills the technology and upgrade criteria. There are so many benefit to upgrading to D7000 like 100% viewfinder, custom controls, front/back dials, better Dynamic range, x2 cards etc etc.

The only caveat is that it's slightly costlier, but hey, thats what upgrade means right?

Hmmmm.... I would choose D5100 if looking for DX bodies, cheap and having good higher ISO performance... If you really needing very high ISO performance, get FX and call it the day, D600 on the way, may as well wait and see....

Only consider the D90 if you really want better body grip and more shortcut buttons, bracketing, cls, built in motor feature. The rest is almost outdated.

I agree with most of them. I have been using D90 for a year now. Technology is old but I bought it because for the price it has decent features. But D7000 would be better off but if you never tried DSLR before get the D3200.

I am a D90 user. You're better off with D3200 red colour body. Black is boring.
It's like this.... what's the reason u buy a dSLR? If is to take nice pictures.. then by all means go for D3200. It does the job well.
If you buy dSLR to learn to control exposure, fine tune white balance (D90 auto WB sucks), practice to set Apperture/shutter in seconds, ... then consider a D7000 (or D90 if can get a good deal).
Be very honest to yourself. Learning means getting tons of ****ty pictures before u can get to make a good one (sometimes i get lucky). But is satisfaction rewarded coz deep inside you, you know you got the damn settings and composition right!

Any upgrade is an upgrade. Since you are upgrading from D40, then the controls of the D3200 would be more familiar. Then again, D90 seems like its been around for sometime.....

Here are some of the points that you shall buy D3200 instead of D90.... D90 are over praised like god here as people still wanted to sell it at a premium price.....
More important is, use manual mode(as you have more control) to sharpen your skills....

i would suggest you spend a bit more , upgrade to D7000. Borrow your frds and play play , and back home view in monitor to compare, you will know D7000 is worth it.
in fact, on the high ISO , NR is far better than my old D300.

I know money is a issue for most of us but I personally prefer to buy a brand new body because getting a new camera is sentimental, if get used one feel not syiok lah. Anyway its my 2 cents worth lah.

D90 is still better than D40. Get used D90 and then invest in better lens.
