Unifi - getting slower. How to cancel the contract ?

    Hi,

Did you notice that Unifi is giving problems since they asked to upgrade ? I am not satisfied with their service and wish to jump ship to another provider.

However, I was told that the Unifi contract is for 2 years and if you terminate within the 2 years a penalty of RM500.00 will be imposed.

However, Unifi has failed in providing the service they claimed that they provide (i.e. the internet speed is slower what they claim to be providing) - have they broken their service contract ( how can I proof that the speed provide is slower - that can be recorded and used as evidence) Can I use these to terminate my Unifi contract ?

Can someone tell me how can I terminate the Unifi contract without incurring the penalty ?

    Thank you all in advance.

You will have a hard time to claim the provider has breached contract. Read the fine print and most probably you will find statements such as 'provided as is', 'network speed provided is theoretically' 'cannot be hold responsible for', and so on.

Have you already considered in contacting the service desk to discuss the problem? Sometimes the fibre optic cable is causing a concern, either on your end or the nearest hop termination end.

If you wish to terminate early bite the bullet and pay up. If you think another company provides a better service don't waste another day but you better think twice in believing that other providers are so much better.

just bypass the original TM DNS. instead use Google public DNS. TM DNS is just lousy...

log in into the router, then click "Manual Internet Connection Setup"

check the "enter DNS manually" and specify google public dns in respective primary and secondary dns addresses. usually 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.

save setting and reboot the router

I don't like popular service, that's why I still stick with stimix 4mb/s when my friend upgraded to unify.

Whenever I called stimix service, told them I am 4mb/s user, they passed my call to a higher rank personal to service me.

Are you absolutely sure it is a Unifi problem? I know someone whose Unifi slowed drastically. In the end he found out it was his modem. After he changed it speed went back to normal. And he spent weeks screaming at Unifi without getting anything solved.

Agreed with what Chinks said. Try the router first. I changed mine. No more Wifi signal dropping problem. The DIR 615 is famous for weak wifi signal and dropped signals.

Re: Unifi - getting slower. How to cancel the contract ?

I used Linksys (cisco). I use to use Belkin, people say belkin is good so brought 1 and then another one. Lastly found out that it is suck. My router is super high end belkin router... at that time only a few vendor carry it. It still fail to my expectation. The router give me a lot of problem, cannot discover my storage, connection slow but signal is showing strong etc. I visit the belkin service center in puchong/old klang road leading to puchong, the guy just say no problem. No way I can prove it.

When I changed to Linksys, no more problem and no need to hear those bull**** reason.
I have good experience with Aztech as well.

In term of provider, TM, Maxis, Times... all satu family. TM line is the main pipe going out of the country, Maxis and Times taping on it. They make sure they get back their rental fee paid to TM worthwhile. So if complain TM slow, I bet you will not get any better with other provider.

I have the same thinking with Dr Koh. All service are provided based on shared basis. More user mean you get smaller chunk of the bandwidth. As more people will be moving to Unifi, streamyx will be free up. In general Unifi will have better speed but at least I am paying less for streamyx and the bandwidth will be more stable as more people will be moving to Unifi.

Hope Unifi can keep on increasing their pipe... I might jump to Unifi in the future.

Better use external DNS... some site are block by TM or local provider if you use their DNS...

Again .. the problem could be your fiber cable. It is sensitive and might have latency issues of some kind. Call support to get assistance.

most of connectivity issue is due to router supplied by TM. I had numerous occasions where I can't connect to router unless using LAN cable. the standard wifi router supplied by TM is just ahh.. cap ayam!

if u guys don't need big data usage e.g. only for surfing, or casual download, i'll recommend yes 4G. i consistently able to get at least 10Mbps at home, shah alam area. last time subang jaya area, on high rise, managed to get up to 18Mbps! at home i'm using their zoom router, but i boosted the signal using another router to cover the entire house. when on the road i use their dongle.

but with me going around recommending it, some days their service will get slower as well *sigh*

Hmm, my UniFi is slowing down as well. And I agree, the router supplied by UniFi is cr@p. My router died less than 6 months into the contract. I had to call UniFi and have them replace it.

Maybe it is time I bought I new router. I hope "beyond" have time to check out the details of his router and share it with us.

In the meantime, I shall try using an external DNS.

Many thanks to all for your suggestions.
