Photo I
Photo II
- Which one works for you? or neither.
- Have you ever come to a choice between Horizontal and Vertical? Share them here.
I like photo I for the extra stuff in telling the story and Photo II gives more element of loneliness to the man.

prefer the 1st one, at least the photo doesnt looks empty![]()
I'm full time gear head, yes i am... :D
#1 is better. The window adds another element of interest.
Wah! you must be shooting with a medium format. You have the luxury of cropping it in landscape or portrait format......![]()
Are you sure these images were taken from a same medium format frame, and cropped to size?
I am guessing that they were not from the same frame. My reasons are
1 The aspect ratios of both images were exactly the same, and exactly of the same dimensions. It is more likely that they are two different exposures, than two images cropped from the same frame.
2 If you look carefully on the grounds, there are some "white spots" (I do not know what they are) that are not present in both images. If the two images are from the same frame, I expect the cropping to have no effects on the placing of these spots in the two images.
OF course it is still possible that they are from the same frame, especially if the pictures were printed using the same masking easel, and the "spots" were mere dusts on the negative.

2 different exp. The man didn't move.![]()
no 1. but crop off the bottom. too much space...
I prefer the horizontal version, as I find the window in the first photo has taken away too much attention from the person in the photo. So, the horizontal cleaner version gives me more attention to the person in there.

Thanks all for the replies. You guys have shared your opinion on the 1st question, very much appreciated.
What about the 2nd question? What is you thinking process before the shoot? Any examples/situation that you have encounter before?
