I just dunno why but this fire hydrant infront of my house never failed to get my intention whenever I went outside. I am new in this neighbourhood. My neighbours told us that the fire hydrant is not in good condition..air tak kuat they said. The authority "neglected" that thing for a long time already

Yup, to both questions. Reports have been made many times by the neighbours long before I moved there but no real actions taken.

I am so far away, jusoh. I am in a small, packed, not well-planned town called Serian. It is about 25-30 minutes drive from Kuching, Sarawak.

question - how would they know water pressure from the fire hydrant is not strong? have they used it before in its capacity as a fire hydrant?

burn a house nearby then u should know...just kidding...get d local balai bomba to help or d bomba sukarela if there is one ...i'm sure being a small community that everyone should know each other very well...check the valve inside a chamber but u need a special key to turn open d valve though....

how they know the water pressure not strong enough? has it been utilized before?perhaps the distance of the fire hydrant too far from the tank, so the pressure become slower...

A fire broke out in one of the houses in that neighbourhood before. Burnt almost to the ground they said and the bomba couldnt do much since the water pressure was low. A fire also took out a pasaraya on the morning of June, 1st 2009! Bomba from 2 station came to the rescue. They managed to save the lower level but they could hv saved the upper level a bit if the water pressure was strong; said one of the bomba man. The water supply for us came from the same source.

normally for critical area like town packed with shops or houses, they will have a dedicated source for this purpose..thus, the pressure of water constantly similar and this is requirement by our law as well..

since your village was far away, they fully utilize the same source and in fact the distance of fire hydrant and source itself should be considered leads to the pressure drop..

the only way to boost the pressure up only to construct another source for it or minimize the daily usage (it's impossible at all)..another factor possibly the valve inside already blocked...need to continuously preserve and inspect..

based on d pillar design, looks like a good water flow rating which is higher than u normally see in a housing estate but sabah n sarawak has their own by-law different from semenanjung...the hydrant is supposed, if i correctly understand but never too late to ask d fire dept when i met them one of this day, to be hooked to fire engine pump except those designed as pressurized hydrants before it came out so the pressure is maintained n achieved but off course the pillar has to supply certain gallons of water per minute dictated by the fire dept normally stated in the 'kehenda2 kebombaan' but in my 20 over years experience never i saw they measure the output but rather based on observation during inspection testing...wooop enough of boring educational stuff huh...afternoon cheers..e & o reserved
