AF540 flash stuck in K10D!

Guys, I don't know why... my AF540 flash stuck in my K10D can't take out. Just happen 2 hours ago while I'm in Bk Jalil shooting little frogs, sky is dim, so I fix my AF540, after that I turn the "FIX" ring to the left to detach the AF540 flash. Even the "FIX" ring is fully turn to the left, it still stuck there, couldn't move at all!

I suspect the locking pin of the flash is not function, I can't see the pin from the gap on the hotshoe, but I feel that the pin can't retrieve back into the flash.

How arr???

Re: AF540 flash stuck in K10D!

I read on Dpreview Pentax Forums about the flash getting stuck on the camera. It happens on other makes too, for now the best solution is to send it to shriro and once you get it back, remove the locking pin from the flash.

Here is the URL to the same discussion at Dpreview

The following image shows the assembly of the AF540FGZ hot shoe contact (note the filmsy construction of the locking pin)

Thanks dayalan86!

I can't believe the pin was holding by a small piece of filmsy plastic!

I will send back, and try to request Shriro remove the pin for me, or replace the plastic peice with a metal one.

Re: AF540 flash stuck in K10D!

Pls do let us know the outcome though.

Most other Pentax users in the other forums (in another part of the globe) had the Pentax distributors blame on the customers saying they do not know how to look after their stuff, or rather amateurs who have no idea on handling their equipments.

I think Shriro would do a better job that the above mentioned Pentax distributors.

This morning I got my flash back!

My wife help me sent to Shriro Tuesday, Wednesday morning Havard call me, I let him know my thoughs, the same day 5pm a lady call me that I can collect my K10D + flash. That's fast!

After a short chat with this nice guy, Havard, I understand that he had modify the broken plastic part with a metal wire embeded in the flimsy plastic part. So the pin still works, and further strenghten the filmsy plastic too. He believe it won't spoil easily anymore. Brilliant!

In fact he is not recommended to take out the pin, just because the hotshoe might slide out a little bit and cause the connection error.

Later I will post a diagram to explain further how he modify the plastic part.

Re: AF540 flash stuck in K10D - SOLVED!!

I don't dare to open my AF540 to see what Harvard did with my flash... So below is my understanding by listen to Harvard explanation. Hope this diagram will make things clearer.

I quite like the little "click" sound of the metal part when releasing the FIX ring, cool! At lease I know the pin is working while turning the FIX ring. Perviously there is no sound at all when releasing the FIX ring.

Cheers,

Glad that everything is settled and thx for the illustration.

I hope that Pentax would think of making the modification standard on the newer production AF540FGZ and giving FOC modification to previous owners of the AF540FGZ.

Re: AF540 flash stuck in K10D!

Glad that my diagram help somehow. It's my pleasure to help AF540 users & potential owners. And it is good news that Shriro able to modify it FOC during warranty period.
