Pentax new models jan 2008

Wonder if I jumped ship too soon from k100 to k10...got this news from a singapore forum..
\Here are some leaked specs about these two new cameras:

Camera 1 -- K20D (upgrade version from K10D):
- Still and APS-C cropped sensor, but will be a CMOS sensor which has 14mp or more pixels. The sensor was developed by Pentax themselves, not by Sony . Most likely it'll be manufactured by Cypress or Samsung
- New digital imaging processor w/ 14bit RAW output. Don't know for sure if it'd have 22bit ADC as the K10D
- 3" back LCD with Live View feature
- Improved SR
- Similar built as K10D (weather sealed, stainless steel body...)
- Improved menu system, including AF adjustment for different lenses
- Some other minor improvement.

Camera 2 -- K200D (upgrade version from K100D Super):
- Same sensor as the one used in K10D (10mp by Sony)
- 12bit RAW output with NO 22bit ADC support
- Bigger buffer, can take 10 RAW continuously, JPG shots number only limited by the card. But still the same 2.9 fps
- Similar built as K100D Super with Pentamirror focusing screen, still use 4 AA batteries
- Some other minor improvement

These are more or less confirmed changes/upgrades from previous models, but might subject to change.

Some other news about the new lenses:
DA*60-250 will most likely be announced next month (Dec 2007)
DA*200, DA*300 and some other new lenses will be announced along with the new cameras.

That's all for now. I'll keep you guys updated.

Cheers and happy shooting.

Re: Pentax new models jan 2008

i hope Pentax makes a really great K20D... but it looks like i'll be skipping this generation & wait for the next wave!!

just about to finish paying for the K10D... so don't think finances allow to upgrade just yet.... the K30D of year 2009/2010 more likely for me!!

Rumors stated that the new k200d will use back sony's CCD while the new k20d will use their own CMOS sensor. Why not the k200d also use the same thing? or are they launching the k200d Super sometime next year?

my reading would be like this ...

1) the 10mp sensor for K200D would be either the K10D sensor or more likely the Nikon D40x sensor with some minor upgrade, tweaks etc of course... why?? coz it's proven to be manufactured cheaply as in the case of Nikon D40x

2) we still dont know what sensor K20D gonna use... the 2 suspects are
a) 12mp CMOS like the Sony A700 / Nikon D300
b) 12mp Pentax own developed sensor [via collaboration with others]

3) K200D super?? the K100D super was basically to add SDM capability to the K100D [a bit extra was the dust reduction]...

so a K200D Super is not that likely to happen unless Pentax introduces yet another interesting technology to its DSLRs... so a 2 camera attack via

K20D vs Canon 40D/Sony A700/Nikon D80/D300/Olympus E3
[match, exceed or at par but still offer the highest value for money like K10D is doing.... but i suspect it'll lose out in some areas like fps, AF speed ... but as a package, it'll pack a whallop !! ]

K200D vs Canon 400D/Nikon D40x
[trumps these 2 cameras in everything ....!! cept maybe high ISO capability]

I sure hope K200D will come with Live view.

Why?

Personally.....becos I think K200D will the be the price I can afford not K20D

From Pentax Marketing perspective, the next few launching from other manufacturer will undoubtly have this feature for their entry level like Olympus, thus it will be good to go for it now and early.

allow me to add, my DS2 is like a baby soother. it is still a lot of run like your DL. can't get rid of it so easy even with the K10d. wait for k20d.

Re: Pentax new models jan 2008

Yeap, I might only think of an upgrade from my K100D to the likes of a K40D (provided my K100D does not break up) and continue building my system first.
I only hope that there will be a real separate AF assist beam on the body (not the idiotic built in flash strobing as AF assist) and also for a fast & accurate AF in twilight.

Either way, 2007 seems to be a promising year for Pentax and lets hope the new lenses and bodies that will be announced, get into stores fast with good QC.

I wish for Pentax to generalize SDM in all their lenses, not just the DA*.

Oh yeah...the seperate AF beam like in Nikon would be nice. The built in flash always make my subjects think that a flash had been fired and their pictures taken.

Re: Pentax new models jan 2008

I'm more interested with the rumors of "preview in viewfinder" & "battery grip contain extra buffer memory for faster fps":
http://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/p...ax-genius.html

which somehow quite true after reading this:
http://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/p...h-like-d3.html

Thats so happening man!

hmmm.... i want the anti-gravity levitation so no need tripot and 20 stops SR, iso50,000 with iso800 noise level....10 stop of dynamic range will be fine...

* and i want hologram projected preview too, adjustment able controlled just by thinking, camera data can direct transmit into brain....

Re: Pentax new models jan 2008

I am looking at upgrading to K20D if it has the following:
- faster burst mode of 5fps or more
- high ISO noise performance equivalent to D300/A700/40D
- the same 3" LCD screen resolution as the D300/D3, ie, 900k
- improved AF speed

Am I being unreasonably optimistic?

Re: Pentax new models jan 2008

I really want to shoot at ISO 3200 with low noise. Hope their next generation of sensor can achieve that. But then again, hopefully they will to cater the k200d instead of only the k20d.

Re: Pentax new models jan 2008

It appears that the K200D which is supposed to use the same Sony 10mp CCD, used in K10D, will not be able to handle ISO3200 well, if Pentax does want to have it at all. My bet is on the K20D, although there will be a hefty price to pay.

Hey dude, I rather wish for a Pentax contact lens which can do all above, and bluetooth the images into my 500GB thumbdrive.
