Re: What? A Pentax K20D for PMPE stage 2 in Siem Reap?

Maxby,
You managed to bring imperfection (the hardware) to perfection (your photos). Tumbs up!

Thanks William. A photographer should not be giving excuses about bad equipment. He should work within the limitations of the equipment and challenge himself to produce good photos. Every camera has its own limitations.

Anyway the K20D is rated as "excellent"....by Maxby's mother of all camera brand reviews.

Thanks, I think understanding your camera and working within its limits ranks high on the list. Any camera capable of taking pictures is an excellent camera.

It is the challenge for the photographer to make best use of it.

At the end of the PMPE, we sat down and tested the exposure systems of the various camera models and brands. The most accurate exposure systems were by Nikon D3, Canon 1Ds MkII, Pentax K20D. The fairly accurate exposure system (within +/- 1/2 stop off the lightmeter and grey card readings) were by Canon EOS, 300, 350, 450 and Nikon D90. The exposure system that has a mind of its own was by Nikon D300. We had 3 Nikon D300's tested and all have exhibited these strange behaviour.
You should test out the exposure of the S5Pro someday.

Number 3 is really fantastic!

I spent a good 3 minutes just admiring this photo! Maxby, really awesome and great exposure control. Even more remarkable as you were using a totally new setup.

Love those pics., uncle max.

Was surprised when you mentioned you are using a dSLR in your Siem Reap trip but Pentax AF and metering will give an excellent result for a patient man like you. Its colour rendition straight from the cam. itself is extraordinary.

Was glad that your assessment on the K20D was practical. Of course there are pros & cons in everthing, at the end of the day it is about choices.

Cheers.

Re: What? A Pentax K20D for PMPE stage 2 in Siem Reap?

uncle Maxby can please explain what you mean by " However, it did not hold up very well as a camera for “street photography”."
why not?

is it just because of the slow focusing?
planning to get a k20d

thank you
