It's 4.35am now. I was just doing a final check on my PowerShot A70 before lending it to my friend tomorrow. The last time I shot with this camera was this afternoon before 2pm. I took some shots and they look something like this.
The fine image should be something like this I'm worried about the A70, there weren't any problem, not a single glitch for the past > 1 year of use. Anyone faced this problem before? This camera was bought last year's July so it's like almost 1.5 years old. From what I can see, no problem with focussing or playback so it's definitely not the LCD screen problem. I really don't know what's wrong. If it's the sensor problem then I'm puzzled as to why it still can focus, change settings, as usual. Sigh, happy day with my EOS 300D ends up as a gloomy day having my A70 going haywire. It really hurts to see the cam rosak like this, I know it's bad that I've been griping about how slow it is, how it's impossible to get the shot I want with this cam .. but it has served me well in 90% of the casual occasions and it's been with me for > 1 year ... sigh ... sorry for being too emotional .. feels like a good friend falling ill.. and you don't know whether it can recover or not.. EDIT: The camera has not been dropped, gotten wet, put into any extreme weather condition nor been abused before.. I just don't know why it suddenly becomes like this ... |

Sounds like either the sensor is having problems or the write to CF is faulty (which can be easily confirmed by looking at the LCD image as you setup the shot). Either way the camera needs to go back to Canon for a repair estimate.

Yeah, anyway also it has to masuk bengkel.
I don't think it's a write to CF fault because the live feed is already corrupted (can be seen below). Most probably will be a sensor failure.. and if so, even without estimation also I think it's gonna be quite costly. EDIT: The image shows "No memory card" on the A70 because I was using it in the 300D when the image was being taken. Only have one 128MB turtle card now ![]() |

Try to take out the batteries and reload with a fresh set of batteries...have the same problem with this camera. Also reload the CF card...

As a general rule, you should ALWAYS format the card in the camera NOT in the computer. You should format it EVERYTIME you are done downloading the images to your computer before you start shooting again.

Ageed <!--QuoteBegin-Jiminlai You should format it EVERYTIME you are done downloading the images to your computer before you start shooting again.[/quote] Not really .. you can erase the images using the card reader or erase option from the camera's menu command. Erase does not affect the FAT table structures which is the reason for the "format in camera" approach ![]() |

Time to bring this issue back, in case anyone is interest
![]() The situation has gotten worse, now the image in record mode is pitch black, nothing, thus metering and focussing does not work anymore. Playback is 100% fine I've tried everything, reloading a fresh set of batteries (tried with 2 sets of 4xAA), format CF cards and tried it on (2 cards, SAndisk 128MB and Transcend 512MB), no use, record mode is still black. My friend had been through the same situation in his Sony and he's been told it's a sensor failure. He got it fixed for RM 222. I guess the repair bill for this A70 will be around that region too. I'm gonna bring it to Canon tomorrow, see what they can do about it. |

I'm not sure if I talked to the same girl as digitalartist always do, but she does look pretty and is friendly eventhough she had a running nose at that time ![]() |

Confirmed sensor failure. RM 299 to fix, some talking reduced the cost to RM 279 (yeah "great", that's like less than 10% reduction).

Warranty already expired. This cam is 1.5 years old. I guess it's covered by warranty if it's still valid.
I'm not sure of any third party aftersales service, no experience with any. Heard that Desmond repairs cameras but that's mechanical fault and white balance settings sound like a firwmare/software problem to me. I sent to Canon HQ and Hyatt Saujana. |
