Hi Canony,
Yep, it was intentionally done to capture the "gloomy" mood of missing someone dearly...
Thanks for visiting and the comment.

i would prefer it if u just darken the area surrounding the model and leave the model relatively brighter than the rest of the pic to accentuate the 'gloomy' mode that u're after.

As it is, the fill flash leaves the model relatively flat, ie: she didnt stands out from the background.

Solution, get the flash OFF the camera and triggers it while it is position to the right of the frame. Tilt it slightly down towards the model head.

Zoomed out the flash to about 50mm position so the flash coverage didnt spread to her pants (which is white, easily overblown by the flash!).

You'll just illuminate her upper torso and face while keeping proper exposure on her pants.

To darken the ambient light, dialled in +1EV to the flash output, or alternatively -1EV on the camera body if you use TTL.

Very easy.

For manual shooter out there, under exposed ambient light by 1 stop (using high shutter speed if that is possible) while maintaining flash and aperture value.

Wait, I just repeating myself here

Sifu TED,

Thank you for the constructive feedback. Will take note of the comments and will endeavour to simulate this in our next outing.
Hope I can still remember it....

Kind regards
