Pros: F2.8, Sharp, Perfect FL for weddings, events and people
Cons: HUGE

I would say if I'm given a choice to choose a lens for weddings, events or people, this will be one of the lenses I chose in a heartbeat.

Perfect for shooting if your subjects are close/very close to you. Stop it down a bit and yes very sharp results. Good colors and contrast indeed. Oh focusing? Yep very fast

I got no complaint about this lens just for the fact that it is HUGE.

Pros: f2.8, 17mm, tolerable edges at extremes, useful wide zoom range, robust/well made
Cons: heavy, huge, expensive, top barrel moving when zooming, DX , zoom ring too small

I am surprise not many review posted for this lense despite its popularity and performance. For technical review, you can read them at major photography site.

Personally I find this lense as a perfect sparring partner to the D2 series camera in terms of handling. It is erfectly weighted to give full confidence in handling the unit. Built to last and material used is topnotch . The optics are magnificent with some limitations in shooting against brightly light source. Very useful to take daily shots of people and general landscape, ie weddings, children, etc.

This lenses stayed on my camera body 90% of the time due to its versatility. Wide is wide enough to satisfy my general demand and the edges distortion is very tolerable. Color contrast and is very very decent.
freehand shooting can develop improvement in upperbody muscles as it is a heavy lense for standard zoom

Its is good most Nikon body has good gripping ergonomics. Thank god for that.

Manual focusing is easily done with the generously proportioned ring. Zooming ring is slight letdown though. It is located too near to the body of the camera. Wonder why Nikon Engineer missed this..mmmph.

Although it is designed as a DX lense, it a perfect partner for cropped sensor body, especially the D2 series .(It will be a while before it loose its appeal). Some think it as letdown if one tend to go for the FF body in the future

This is a keeper lense for me. Come what may.

Overall I have no complaint except it is an expensive lense. (depriving many enthusiast of its fantastic ability)

Pros: Very useful f/2.8 thru out the whole range, very sharp images among similar class lenses, came with a pouch and hood. Fast Auto focus speed with most modern Nikon SLR body.
Cons: NO major complain except its a DX Lens, can't be used on FX full resolution.

Since the day I bought the lense, it has become my primary lense for 90% of the time covering events, weddings and some landscape scenery.

The lense focus pretty fast with its built in sonic wave motor on modern Nikon bodies, has a sharp image output wide open through out the ranges, nice contrast and not so bad out of focus effects.

You'll get a pouch and a hood together with the lense, which is added value and they work pretty well to me.

I used this lens with D70 and D200, and recently it has become my kit lens for my D300. I would say this is a perfect general lens for DX models instead of the 17-35/F2.8

Pros: very versatile lens, suitable for mostly all occasion.
Cons: not really.

It is a all rounder lens for everyday usage.Very sharp from wide to max.Good for events especially, good for light penetration with the 77mm f2.8.

It attached to my camera almost 95% most of the time.Strongly recommended.
