Pros: Best Zoom Lens Ever Made.
Cons: 'they said the range's too short' - hahaha.

Imagine a lens so good, many use for a head to head review clash with prime lenses. In fact, to some extend, it's better than some wide angle primes in it's range.

Imagine a lens so strongly made, a hummer looks like a proton next to it, a tank looks relatively flimsy.

Now...imagine if you have one, think of what can you do with it?

this is where you insert your corny little lines.
this is where you insert the reputable list of gears you have (or in that case, planning to get) for public viewing purposes.
this is where you insert your infamous online portfolio or blog for other's perusal.

Pros: Sharp, focuses fast, solid build, many good primes in 1
Cons: Hard to find in the local market

For anyone who can afford this lens, it is certainly worthwhile to get one. A whole new world of image options becomes very possible because it is a fast lens. On a digital platform, zooming to 35mm is just a shade over what's considered normal focal length for film cameras. So yes it's fine for portraits. Some people may disagee, but check out Strobist.com for Bill's images from using this very lens. His influence was what made me decide to get one as well.

From my experience, the 17-35 seems to resist flare very well. I use mine without the hood and the few who have this lens have testified to this as well. The 17-35 also produces great colour and great contrast. I get a feel-good factor whenever I check the LCD screen to see how my shots have come out. This lens can also focus on a subject from as close as 1 foot away, from the focal plane of the camera, not from the end of the lens! I need to experiment one day to see what macro possibilities this lens can generate.

It's a hard lens to find in the market, at least from my personal observation. I paid RM5700 for mine and I don't know if this is a competitive price but at the point of finding one, I didn't care.

The construction is solid, all metal, and when its combined with a D200, it weighs almost 2kgs. The weight is not an issue. There is a professional female photographer that I know of who uses this very setup for hours in her assignment without problems... and yes she has still remained feminine and petite.

I now use this and the 70-200mm f/2.8 while my other lenses sit in a dry cabinet which is a shame really. What's in my dry cabinet may end up being sold but not the 17-35.
