i just got my hands on the Tamron Tamron SP AF90mm F/2.8 Di Macro Lens 1:1 and i must say it's quite a contender to the AF Micro-Nikkor 60mm F/2.8 D..at 1:1 magnification it has an effective aperture of f/5.6 (Nikkor 60mm has f/5)..
for starters, it has a limiter switch for standard and macro mode..in standard mode AF is reasonably fast, in macro mode, it tends to hunt a little..
it's not THAT noisy, but to put it to comparison, it makes slightly more noise than a 50mm F/1.8 D
so the verdict? i'd go for the Tamron SP90 rather than the Nikkor 60mm..why?
the SP90 gives better image quality, better bokeh, and a longer focal range.
getting the Nikkor 60mm is rather daft if you already own the 50mm f/1.8...the bokeh is rather distracting..it is indeed sharper than the tamron, but i find the bokeh rather 'sharp' as well..you don't get a smooth one like you do from the Tamron SP90

its a superb lens, no doubt about it. its a great lens for what it is: as a macro lens.
so, be wary if using it to take candid potraits as the focus is quite slow and hunting occurs quite frequently. its quite long physically, so its not too 'walkaround' friendly.
but in the end, the image quality is what counts. it score a perfect 10 in that department.
